What is MSA?

The Master Silk Artist designation is SPIN's most prestigious certification.

Excellence in Artistry

MSA certification recognizes artists who have demonstrated exceptional technical skill.

Community Leadership

MSAs serve as mentors, teachers, and ambassadors for the art form.

A Legacy of Excellence

Since its inception, the MSA program has certified fewer than 50 artists.

MSA Application Path

Could You Be SPIN's Next Master Silk Artist?

If you are already creating confident, original silk work and you are a current SPIN member, this is your opportunity to earn the highest professional honor in our community. MSA recognition celebrates exceptional artistry, technique, and creative voice and it carries lifelong distinction.

Why MSA Matters

  • MSA is a lifelong distinction recognizing mastery of silk, dyes, design, and color.
  • You are encouraged to use MSA after your name in professional materials and public profiles.
  • MSAs elevate the field through teaching, demonstrations, exhibits, and artist mentorship.

How Selection Works

  • Deadline: January 31 each year.
  • Review committee includes a SPIN member, an MSA member, and one independent professional artist.
  • All applications and non-selected applicants remain confidential.

What Makes a Strong Application

Follow the MSA Application form exactly. Missing required components can remove your application from review. The committee evaluates only the submitted work samples, so choose carefully.

Portfolio Window

Submit current work from the last five years that shows consistency and technical control.

Your Signature Style

Show a clear artistic voice that is recognizably your own.

Not selected the first time? Apply again. Several MSAs were selected after multiple submissions.
